DESERT ROCK GARDEN is a memory play about belonging, family, and creating something beautiful out of nothing. This fictionalized historical story about a young orphan and a Japanese immigrant who forge a friendship in the Topaz War Relocation Center in 1943 reveals the inherent human ability to transform nothing — loneliness and barren desert — into something long-lasting and precious.

Amy Dell, an actor member of Scripteasers, is excited to be performing in “On Her Shoulders We Stand,” at the Athenaeum Art Center in the Bread and Salt Building (1955 Julian Ave.) in Barrio Logan, San Diego, from 2/11-2/26/22.

It is a new play written and directed by Patrice Amon, and produced by TuYo Theatre in collaboration with Turnkey Theatre, SDSU, and CSUSM. This 40-minute theatrical piece takes small groups of between 1 and 4 people through 7 staged rooms to experience the challenges, joys, and hopes of Latino women during the WWII era. Reservations by donation are required for this event. They may be made in 20-minute intervals on each performance night using: bit.ly/3FSZ3RV. COVID protocol are being followed. It’s a unique and immersive experience that you won’t want to miss. Thanks!
