JAMES REYNOLDS

Longtime Scripteaser writer member Jim Reynolds passed away on November 3, 2021.  He was 75.

Jim became a writer member in 2012.  An architect by trade and a proud Army Lieutenant in Vietnam, who also acted in and designed sets for many community theater productions, Jim was a prolific writer with a dry wit and insightful comments to add to discussions.  Over the years Scripteasers read countless short plays by Jim, many of which placed in our annual Script Tease Short Play contest and were produced around the country.  Jim's play "Closing Time " was included in our 70th Anniversary Showcase.  Jim also served on the Board and in committee roles.  So dedicated was Jim to the group, when he became unable to attend meetings in person, he requested remote access via Skype (pre-pandemic!), which we set up and which he used.

Jim will be greatly missed.

Tom first joined Scripteasers in 1976, and over the years served as an officer and in many unofficial roles, most notably as our “Sunshine Person” for more than a quarter century. He was an actor member and read in many plays over the past 40 years.

From the LA Times - 1985

Local playwright Ruth Angell Purkey has been awarded first prize in the New England Theatre Conference’s 1984-85 John Gassner Memorial Playwriting contest. She received the award, which includes a $500 cash prize, for “The Lady and the Lass,” a play about a romantic triangle involving Thomas Carlyle, Jane Welsh Carlyle and Lady Harriet Ashburton. It is the second time Purkey has won the award. She took first place in 1980-81 for “The Haunted Carousel.” .
